Nava is a historic Italian design brand founded in Milan. It is internationally known for backpacks, professional bags, diaries, and stationery products.
Context
As the brand expanded internationally, it needed to preserve its historical identity. At the same time, it had to remain consistent and relevant across new communication channels, markets, and cultural contexts.
Challenge
The main challenge was balancing heritage and evolution. The goal was to allow the brand to grow without losing the essence of its Milanese design culture.
Approach
Over more than a decade, we partnered with Nava as long-term creative direction collaborators. We guided the brand’s evolution across multiple touchpoints and media.
This approach focused on:
• continuity of brand identity
• system-based communication across platforms
• adaptation to contemporary cultural and market changes
System
A cohesive brand system was developed and applied across several areas:
• editorial and catalog design
• product communication for diaries, calendars, and stationery
• retail and trade fair environments
• digital and web platforms
• visual direction for campaigns and brand communication
Together, these elements formed a unified communication ecosystem. They did not function as isolated artifacts.
Outcome
The collaboration helped Nava evolve into a contemporary lifestyle design brand. At the same time, it preserved the character of its Milanese heritage.
The system provided:
• long-term visual consistency
• adaptability across formats and media
• continuity between heritage and contemporary communication
Design, in this case, goes beyond isolated outputs. It creates systems that can evolve over time.
